Tien has a foundation in counseling psychology and now specializes in '3rd wave' CBT approaches, which focuses on compassionate yet precise behavioral focused treatments. Tien's expertise are in Acceptance & Commitment therapy (ACT) and Functional Analytic Psychotherapy (FAP) and contributes to the clinical development of the FAP field as well as presents FAP training workshops for clinicians internationally. She has worked in both the primary care sector and with the Priory Hospital with adults across a variety of mental health and life issues. Tien is currently reading a PhD with the University of Glasgow researching the behavioral components of effective therapeutic relationship to foster change.
The Thinking Space supports the charity 'commit and act’. This is an international NGO that disseminates psychological (ACT) training to local health workers in developing countries and have a training centre in Bo, Sierra Leone. Tien is on the fund-raising committee and a trainer for the NGO.
Tien is currently setting up a new charity “A Peace of Mind” to provide free psychotherapy for people on low income as well as offering social connection groups to target isolation and loneliness. This charity will be going live end of 2018.
